The face behind this blog

Hello, my name is Mike. I have taken much joy, comfort and time in writing poems over the last 20 years or so. My first poem was called simply 'Spring' and I put pen to paper with a few lines from an idea I had one afternoon looking out of my window at home on a warm, bright day. My five wonderful grown up children then encouraged me to write more poems!

But I had no idea that I would go on to write around 150 by now. There are many themes in what you will read, such as happiness, sadness, love, life and loss. There are also many styles, designs, rhythms and patterns to enjoy and explore.

My ideas and inspiration come from personal life events, stories, feelings, experiences, holidays, adventures, imagination and more. I belong to two creative writing groups which provide stimulating titles, as well as a writers' group which critiques and commends my work.

I have twice come first in the poetry section of the local Music and Arts Festival competition.

I hope you enjoy reading my poems and taking something from them however big or small, with a belief or question, a tear or a smile.
