A Letter Dropped Through The Letter Box

 A big letter dropped through the letter box
with a lovely bright card for my birthday.
Someone out there loves me I pleased to say
To put a smile on my face annually.

I'm overdrawn at the bank; when will it end?
My shopping habits will have to mend!
But will I have enough money to spend?

A letter dropped through the letter box;
what joy! A wedding invitation!
I'll reply without hesitation;
High hopes for their future expectation.

A letter dropped through the letter box;
my favourite charity says there's a need:
so many refugee mouths to feed.
We must make a difference and quell our greed.

A letter dropped through the letter box;
a formal missive offering employment.
Of course I'll accept with much enjoyment.
After years of trying, Oh joy! Fulfilment!

A letter dropped through the letter box;
like most I receive it has a window pane
They're asking me to pay once again.
How will my tightened budget stand the strain?

A letter used to drop through the letter box
telling news from my brother in Oz
I'll write what I've done and send it on because
before emails, circular letters it was.

A letter dropped through the letter box
smelling of rose petals and hand written
by a lady with whom I am smitten,
ending 'With love from' – I'm pleased as a kitten!
